tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234646162011-04-21T21:09:34.868-07:00dkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09136230113162553645noreply@blogger.comBlogger21100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23464616.post-1144211460196266602006-04-04T21:08:00.000-07:002006-04-05T22:46:31.603-07:00- or, rather more accurately, money that you simply do not have...<br />indeed, i have been on a small spending spree - one triggered, i believe, by my recent release from the bondage of the 40 hour a day work week (didn't see that coming, i can tell you!).<br />in the last five days, i have:<br />a) gone online looking for shoes (it's the woman in me), and then decided on boots - eventually, went to jon fluevog's website and found the most gorgeous looking boots, on clearance, for half their original price (hell yes i ordered 'em!), only to find they had been listed in error, and were not available in men's sizes - curses! so, i'm still looking for a sharp pair of footwear....<br />b) i went ahead an purchased a ps2 game from japan that, predictably, i cannot play on my ps2 (will someone please find the uber-asses that decided on 'region-coding' being a good and/or necessary idea and kick them for me? repeatedly?).<br />now, why did i buy this game? well that you should ask...<br />the game in question is based on the single most influential pop culture artifact of my life - the anime series Macross.<br />now, when i was younger, it was known as Robotech, and was part of a 3 series storyline that was rather cleverly assembled from three unrelated shows from Japan that always seemed to migrate from channel to channel, and broadcast time to broadcast time. <br />consequently, i never saw ALL the episodes until just a few years ago, but, nevertheless, this first of the three interlocking storylines always was (and still is) my favorite.<br />if you can imagine Star Wars with better writing (gasp!) and acting (double gasp!!) and a more believable romantic triangle (triple gasp!!!) and add an engaging plot (cardiac arrest!!!!), then you have Macross - the best existing example of a 'space opera' (the music's pretty catchy, too).<br />but, alas, i cannot play the game until i either modify (and, more than likely, ruin) my ps2 OR purchase a japanese ps2 (how is it that no one is selling these cheap - not even used??).<br />still, i knew all this when i bought it, and, given the chance, i'd probably do the same thing.<br />c) oh, and, i went to best buy and purchased the second season of The Wire (incredible show - just amazing) and the first season of Robot Chicken (if it's even half as funny as Toy Fair Theatre - clearly its inspiration - it's money well spent), and volumes 3 & 4 of the second season of Ghost in the Shell.<br />whew!<br />so now that i have free time (no job!) i have taken the path of least resistance (credit!) and will soon regret it (no money!).<br />pray for me.<br />oh yes - next installment, my scathing review of 'V for Vendetta' (the movie, not the comic)......<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/23464616-114421146019626660?l=david-etc.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>dkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09136230113162553645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23464616.post-1141579910825822992006-03-05T09:31:00.000-08:002006-03-05T09:31:50.836-08:00<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/23464616-114157991082582299?l=david-etc.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>dkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09136230113162553645noreply@blogger.com1
